- As stipulated in the CSIR Data Management Procedure, a Data Management Plan must be created when initiating a new research project.
- A data management plan, also referred to as a DMP, is a document outlining how data will be managed during and after a research project. The plan is created at the start of a project (see CSIR data management framework in figure above), is approximately two A4 pages in length, and addresses the following topics:
- the type and volume of data to be collected,
- data storage options to be used,
- ethical issues linked to the data,
- sharing of the data,
- how data will be preserved in the long term, and
- roles, responsibilities and resources required to manage the data.
- The data management plan (DMP) can be created by using any of the following options:
